Legend has it that on August 16, 1864, and on the verge of accepting defeat and leaving the area, four men known as the Four Georgians made their “last chance” search for gold in what is now Helena, MT. Their resulting find spawned a massive gold rush and colorful history, not the least of which includes a significant debate about how many of the Four Georgians were actually from Georgia. Or whether there may have been seven.
On August 16, 2014, Helena will celebrate its 150th birthday of sorts with today’s version of a Montana gold rush, a brewfest featuring more than 20 Montana breweries and more than 60 Montana-made beers. Hosted by the Montana Brewers Association, the festival will begin at 4:00 p.m. at Memorial Park (or 3:00 p.m. with VIP tickets) and features beer, food vendors and live music.
