A friendly reminder here that the deadline for entries to the 1st Annual Montana Mashup statewide home brew competition is Thursday, October 10, 2013. While the competition will be held at Bridger Brewing Co. in Bozeman on October 19 and 20, several drop off locations have been secured across the state. Locations accepting entries up through October 10 are:
- Bridger Brewing, 1609 S. 11th Avenue Bozeman, MT;
- Summer Sun Garden and Brew, 838 West Spruce Street, Missoula, MT;
- Billings Homebrew Supply, 1916 3rd Ave N, Billings, MT 59101; and
- Head Frame Spirits, 21 South Montana St., Butte, MT
Entry fees are $8 for the first beer and $3 for each entry after that with no limit on the number of entries. Styles for the competition are (numbers correspond to the BJCP official style guidelines):
- 6. Light hybrid
- 9. Scottish and Irish Ale
- 13.Stout
- 14. IPA
- 15. German Wheat and Rye Beer
- 16. Belgian and French Ale
- 18. Belgian Strong Ale
- 22. Smoke-Flavored/Wood-Aged Beer
- 23.Specialty Beer
Sponsors for this inaugural competition include Bridger Brewing, Bozeman Brewing Company, 406 Brewing Company, Planet Natural, Big Sky Brewing Co., Billings Homebrew Supply, Montana Brewers Association, Chapman Homebrew Supply, Summer Sun Garden and Brew Supply and Ryan Newhouse.
Judges include BJCP certified judges, professional brewers, and experienced homebrewers.
The grand prize winner will have the opportunity to brew a commercial batch of the winning beer at Bridger Brewing Co. with head brewer Daniel Pollard.
Judging will take place on October 19 and 20 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and will be closed to the contestants. Meet and greet sessions are being planned at Bridger Brewing at 11:30 a.m.
